A few weeks ago while I was surfin through the Xprmnt Facebook pages, I bumped into a twitpic from Estria’s Twitter account and saw what seemed like a pic of Hawaii’s Kraze doin the do on a scapel on what seemed to be a production piece. Then I see a twitpic of East3 and so on and so on while in the back of my head I’m thinkin, “was that really the Kraze of Hawaii? nah… he hasn’t done a piece in about 8 years” then I get a text from E3 himself sayin Kraze is piecin, what have you done?… and then it hit me and I got excited like a fanatic groupie. I couldn’t believe it. After 8 years the boy still got it and I immediately looked at myself and got really motivated to paint again. Now, if your askin why my emphasis on this story is on Kraze and I say because if it wasn’t for Kraze I wouldn’t have been in this printing/designing/retail-wholesale industry. My boy set it off for me and taught me a lot about business, automobile, and art… so you gotta understand why my excitement. The last time I saw my boy was on my trip to SF last year where he closed his shop to take me to a big Hot Rod Car Show and he gave a tour of his shop (where this production piece was done) where a saw a box of 94s and a little abstract background piece of his soon to be store. Then I thought, its good to see him still kinda doin it. Now a days he does a lot of airbrush and automotive painting for many people in Cali’s custom automotive and motorcyle cultures.
Getting back on the topic of the production by Hawaii’s very own 4 living legends. The last time I saw East3 and Kraze got down was about 9-10 years ago and Bam and Estria I’ve been seeing a lot of their pieces as a pic in the net. This production screams “Hawaii” mainly due to the colorway, the artists, and the theme. Octopuses from both Estria and East3, a squid from Kraze and the waves in the background. This was truly a treat for all of us here at the “Rocks”.
Enough with the wrinting and the talking and here’s the pics. Pics are from Estria’s page. Check out Estria’s link below for more pics.
